Third Workshop 2024 – How to teach podcasting III

Our final workshop for the Training of Trainers focused on the topics feedback culture, how to market yourself as a trainer, teaching podcasting for activists and an evaluation of the years’ program.

Day 1

After two busy months for the 15 participants where they planned and facilitated their own trainings, we came together and reflected on how it went. Which kind of challenges did we face? How did we solve them? Which consultations and support could be provided by our dear mentors?

After that we followed up on two topics we started discussing in summer, using the methodology of a barcamp. We discussed the questions of “How to deal with discrimination?” and “How to deal with difficult participants?”. We shared our collective knowledge and developed further strategies together.

If our training experiences was a picture, it would be that:

After lunch we tackled the topic of ethics in podcasting and teaching – especially when we work with groups from so-called over researched communities. We agreed on the fact that the production always has to keep the safety and well-being of the people we work with in mind and discussed the practical approach of the do-no-harm-principle and our responsibilities as podcasters and podcast trainers towards the limits podcasting has to respect.

Loujein’s Workshop

Our expert Loujein Haj Youssef took us afterwards on the travel to explore the world of how to teach podcast marketing. Covering the fields of AI, the importance of SEO in the podcast field, as well as how to read and make use of the data we collect about our listeners. We learned about the advantages of focusing on a specific audience and followers who actually are curious about the topics we work on – rather than trying to talk to anybody because in the worst case this is vulnerable to create hate speech and attract bots.

Day 2

Our second day started as usual with some warmup and harvesting before we got into a very interesting discussion about the ethics and methods to work about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in podcasting as topics as well as with survivors. Our two invited experts Hadeel Banadary (Shosh Podcast) and Baraa Salibi (Defemale Podcast and Sharaf Podcast ) shared their experiences and the participants could contribute based on the discussion about ethics of podcasting and training from the previous day.

Since it was the last workshop for the year 2024 of the Trainer of Trainers program we evaluated and reflected on the past year and closed with our very personal motivations to spread the message of podcasting.
